Calculations and Compound Measures

  • Carry out calculations using standard units of mass, length, area, volume and capacity.

Sequences

3D Pythagoras

  • Use Pythagora's Theorem in 3 dimensions.

3D Shapes and Units

  • Polygons.
  • Give informal reasons,where required, when arriving at numerial solutions to geometrical problems.
  • Provide reasons, using standard geometrical statements, to support numerical values for angles obtained in any geometrical context involving lines, polygons and circles.
  • Convert measurements within the metric system to include linear and area units.
  • Recognise and give the names of solids.
  • Understand the terms "face","edge" and "vertex" in the context of 3D solids.
  • Find the surface area of simple shapes using the area formulae for triangles and rectangles.
  • Know and use the formula for the volume of a pyramid of any base.
  • Find the surface area of a cylinder.
  • Find the volume of prisms, including cuboids and cylinders, using an appropriate formula.
  • Convert between units of volume within the metric system.
  • Find the surface area and volume ofa sphere and a right circular cone using relevant formulae.
  • Shortest path on the surface of a solid (by considering the net).

Tangets and Graphs

  • Draw tangents to cubics and quadratic curves and calculate the gradient.
  • Recognize, plot and draw cubic graphs (of any form, not necessarily in x and y).
  • Sketch factorised or partially factorised cubics.

Function Notation

  • Understand the concept that a function is a mapping between elements of two sets.
  • Use function notations of the form f(x)= and f:x
  • Mappings including the concept of one-to-one, many-to-one, one-to-many and many-many.
